Is your redacted PDF really redacted?
A black box drawn over a number usually leaves the number in the file, where anyone can copy it out. Drop in a PDF to see what is still there. It is read by this page, in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
What it checks
- Text that sits under a dark box — drawn shapes, annotations, and redaction marks that were placed but never applied
- Numbers anywhere in the text that look like PAN, Aadhaar, IFSC or bank account numbers
- Document properties that travel with the file: author, title, the application that made it
What it cannot see
It reads a PDF's text layer. A box painted into a scanned image hides pixels, and this page cannot read pixels — those pages are listed so you know which ones it could not check. Use the copy-paste test on those: select all, copy, paste into Notepad.
Why it is free
We make Oxofolio, an offline document workbench for audit, tax and legal firms. Its redaction deletes the text from the file and then reads the saved PDF back to confirm it is gone. This checker is the second half of that, for files made anywhere else.
